Russell Byrd, Daddy Rolling Stone

Russell Byrd was a pseudonym of record producer Bert Russell Berns, who also used the name of Bert Russell. Daddy Rolling Stone was one of the first five singles to be released on UK Sue. A prolific writer and record producer, he is associated with literally dozens of huge hits including ‘Under the Boardwalk’. He worked closely with soul and rock musicians, and with record companies like Atlantic. He even spent time working as a record producer in the UK in the early 1960s, when he produced artists including Lulu and Them. He died aged 38 on 30 December 1967.
