New York session guitarist James “Jimmy” Spruill was born on June 9, 1934 and died on February 15, 1996 of a heart attack, having appeared on many 1950s and 1960s recordings, including records by King Curtis, Little Anthony and the Imperials, the Shirelles, Tarheel Slim, and Elmore James. He plays guitar solo on both “The Happy Organ” by Dave “Baby” Cortez and Wilbert Harrison’s “Kansas City”. There are reports that he also plays on “Respect” by Aretha Franklin. “Hard grind” was released on UK Sue ILP 920 “50 Minutes 24 Seconds of Recorded Dynamite”.
