Issued on Sue WI 330. Homesick James was born in Tennessee and died on 13 December 2006. His early life is unrecorded. By the 1930s he was in Chicago where he became a prominent blues player. He worked with his cousin, Elmore James, and with Sonny Boy Williamson II. He was a longtime member of Elmore James’ band from 1955 to 1963, contributing to such tracks as “Dust My Broom,” “The Sky Is Crying,” and “Roll and Tumble.” There is a story that Elmore James died on Homesick’s couch, while Homesick frantically searched for the former’s medication.
