Famed American band leader and singer Elmore James was born in Richland, Mississippi, on January 27, 1918. This recording, originally on the Flair label, was released on UK Sue WI 335. On the UK label it is credited to Kent Records. In his lifetime James was noted for his stirring delivery and loud amplification, the latter facet was not lost on other blues men, including Buddy Guy. As well as his own recordings he was a much sought after session musician and plays on many recordings made by Chess and Atlantic which were recorded in Chicago.

Elmore James died in Chicago, Illinois on May 24, 1963.
